As you land, the lively energy of the capital greets you once more, setting the tone for an afternoon devoted to discovering the artistic soul of Patan, one of the valley’s oldest, most graceful, and culturally rich cities.

Afternoon Exploration of Patan City

Patan Durbar Square

Your journey into Patan begins at its magnificent Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site celebrated for its masterful Newari craftsmanship. This ancient royal complex is adorned with beautifully carved temples, elegant palace courtyards, and traditional brick‑and‑wood architecture that reflects Patan’s long‑standing reputation as Nepal’s artistic heart.

Next, visit Kumbheshwar Temple, one of Patan’s oldest and most sacred shrines. This five‑tiered pagoda, one of the few of its kind in the valley, is dedicated to Lord Shiva and holds special significance during the Janai Purnima festival. The temple’s sacred ponds are believed to be connected to the holy waters of Gosainkunda Lake high in the Himalayas.

Mahaboudha Temple

Your walking tour continues to the striking Mahaboudha Temple, often called the Temple of a Thousand Buddhas. Inspired by Indian terracotta architecture, its surface is covered with countless tiny Buddha images, making it one of Patan’s most visually captivating monuments.
