FAQs
Do I need a visa to enter Indonesia?
eVisa On Arrival
Most travelers, including US and Canadian citizens can enter Indonesia with an Electronic Visa on Arrival (eVOA), valid for 30 days and extendable once. A 30-day visa currently costs IDR 500,000 (approx. $35 USD) plus processing card fees. It's highly recommended to apply eVisa online via The Official eVisa website for Indonesia 48 hours before flying. With an e-VOA, you skip the human immigration lines completely. You simply walk up to an automated barrier, scan your passport, let the camera scan your face, and walk straight through to baggage claim. It takes less than a minute.
If you choose to wait and get the physical visa at the airport, you must follow specific steps. You must stand in the slower, manual queues to have a live officer review your documents and place a physical sticker into your book.
Arrival Card and Bali Tourist Levy
Additionally, all travelers must complete the following:
The All Indonesia Arrival Card: This digital form must be completed online within 3 days of your flight. It integrates your required health declaration and customs details. Save the generated QR code to your phone to scan at the airport.
Bali Tourist Levy: Bali requires a separate mandatory tourism tax of 150,000 IDR (approx. US$10). It is highly recommended to pay this ahead of time via the official Love Bali portal to avoid a secondary payment queue upon arrival.
Passport
Ensure that remaining passport is valid for at least six months beyond your return date and that it contains a minimum of two blank pages for entry and exit stamps.
What is the best time to visit Indonesia?
Indonesia is a year‑round destination, but the dry season (April–October) offers the best weather for beaches, trekking, and outdoor activities. The wet season (November–March) brings occasional heavy showers but fewer crowds.
What vaccinations are required for Indonesia?
No mandatory vaccinations are required for most travelers. However, routine vaccines are recommended, and some visitors choose to get hepatitis A/B or typhoid shots. Consult your doctor before traveling.
What currency is used in Indonesia?
The local currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). ATMs are widely available in cities and tourist areas. Credit cards are accepted in hotels and restaurants, but smaller shops and rural areas often prefer cash.
What is the electricity voltage in Indonesia?
Indonesia uses 230V with Type C and F plugs (European-style round pins). Bring a universal adapter if needed.
What should I pack for Indonesia?
Lightweight clothing, swimwear, sunscreen, insect repellent, comfortable walking shoes, a reusable water bottle, and a light rain jacket during the wet season.
What should I wear when visiting temples?
Modest clothing is required. Wear shoulder‑covering tops and knee‑length bottoms. Many temples provide sarongs at the entrance.
