Day 2: Scenic Drive from Kathmandu to Manthali, Ramechhap – Gateway to the Everest Region

Today, your 15-Day Everest Luxury Lodge Trek takes you beyond the Kathmandu Valley and into the scenic countryside of central Nepal.

Morning: Depart Kathmandu for Manthali

After breakfast at Hotel Yak & Yeti, meet your driver and begin the journey eastward toward Manthali, the departure point for many flights to Lukla during Nepal's main trekking seasons. The drive follows the winding roads out of the Kathmandu Valley, passing terraced hillsides, traditional settlements, cultivated valleys, and river landscapes. As you travel farther into rural Nepal, the scenery gradually shifts from the bustling capital to quieter countryside.

Your driver will make suitable stops along the way for refreshments, photographs, and a leisurely lunch at a local restaurant.

Afternoon: Arrival in Manthali and Hotel Check-In

Arrive in Manthali, a small town in the Tamakoshi River Valley that serves as an important gateway to the Everest region.

Check into the best available local accommodation, such as Manthali Park Inn or a similar property, depending on availability.

Although the accommodation here is not comparable to the luxury hotels of Kathmandu or the selected mountain lodges on your trek, it offers a practical and comfortable place to spend the night. This overnight stop is intentionally included to avoid a tiring middle-of-the-night departure from Kathmandu.

The remainder of the afternoon is yours to relax, enjoy the surroundings, or take a short walk near the hotel.

Evening: Final Trek Preparation and Overnight in Manthali

Your trekking guide will review the arrangements for tomorrow's early morning flight to Lukla, including baggage allowances, flight procedures, weather considerations, and the first day's walk to Phakding.

Why Do We Drive to Manthali Instead of Flying Directly from Kathmandu to Lukla?

During Nepal’s peak trekking seasons, most flights to Lukla operate from Manthali Airport in Ramechhap because flight availability from Kathmandu is severely limited by air traffic congestion and operational restrictions at Tribhuvan International Airport.

Day 3: Fly from Manthali to Lukla and Trek to Phakding (2,652 m / 8,701 ft)

Today marks the beginning of your Himalayan trekking adventure as you board an early morning flight from Manthali Airport in Ramechhap to Lukla (2,846 m / 9,337 ft), the gateway to the Everest region. The short but spectacular mountain flight carries you from the lower valleys of central Nepal into the heart of Sherpa country, where your trekking crew awaits.

Your first day on the trail is a relatively gentle introduction to the Everest Luxury Lodge Trek, following the beautiful Dudh Koshi River through traditional Sherpa settlements, prayer-flag-draped bridges, and picturesque mountain landscapes. The day's journey concludes at Phakding, where a comfortable riverside lodge offers a peaceful retreat surrounded by the Himalayas.

Early Morning: Scenic Flight from Manthali to Lukla

After an early breakfast at your hotel in Manthali, transfer with your trekking guide to Manthali Airport (Ramechhap Airport) for your flight to Lukla.

The flight takes approximately 15–20 minutes, weather permitting, and offers impressive aerial views of Nepal's forested hillsides, terraced farmland, winding river valleys, and rugged Himalayan foothills.

As the aircraft approaches Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla, you will experience one of the world's most remarkable mountain airstrips, perched on a steep hillside amid towering peaks.

Lukla is a lively mountain town and the principal gateway to the Everest region. Its narrow streets are lined with trekking lodges, teahouses, shops, cafés, and small monasteries, reflecting the town's importance as a starting point for Himalayan expeditions.

Important Flight Information: Flights between Manthali and Lukla operate under visual flight conditions and are highly dependent on favorable weather at both airports. Delays or cancellations can occur, particularly when cloud cover, visibility, or wind conditions are unsuitable. Your guide and local operations team will coordinate any necessary adjustments to the day's arrangements.

Morning: Meet the Trekking Crew and Begin the Journey to Phakding

Lukla to Chheplung – Entering Sherpa Country

Upon arrival in Lukla, meet the rest of your local trekking team, including the porters who will transport your main luggage throughout the journey.

After organizing the trekking equipment and enjoying a short break, begin your first walk along the well-established Everest trail.

The route initially passes through Lukla's outskirts before descending through cultivated hillsides, traditional stone houses, and small Sherpa settlements.

Follow sections of the trail above the Dudh Koshi River, whose name translates to "Milky River." Fed by Himalayan glaciers, its turbulent, sediment-rich waters rush through the valley below, creating a striking contrast with the surrounding green hills and rocky mountain slopes.

On clear days, enjoy views of Kusum Kanguru (6,369 m / 20,896 ft), an impressive mountain rising above the valley.

Chheplung to Ghat – Prayer Flags and Sacred Mani Walls

Continue along a scenic trail through small villages, terraced farmland, and forests.

Along the way, encounter colorful Buddhist prayer flags, intricately carved mani stones, and traditional mani walls inscribed with sacred Tibetan Buddhist prayers.

These religious monuments are an important part of Sherpa Buddhist culture. Following local custom, walk to the left of mani walls and other sacred structures, keeping them on your right.

The trail passes through Ghat, a small riverside settlement with traditional teahouses and Buddhist shrines.

With several short ascents and descents, the walking remains manageable, allowing time to appreciate the scenery and settle into a comfortable trekking rhythm.

Afternoon: Arrive in Phakding and Settle into Your Riverside Lodge

Phakding – A Peaceful Himalayan Village

Continue along the Dudh Koshi River valley, crossing small streams and passing scattered settlements before reaching Phakding (2,652 m / 8,701 ft).

Situated in a picturesque river valley, Phakding is a popular first overnight stop for trekkers entering the Everest region. The village offers beautiful mountain surroundings, traditional Sherpa hospitality, and a relaxed atmosphere.

Check in to Yeti Mountain Home, a comfortable mountain lodge set in a peaceful location near the Dudh Koshi River.

After lunch and some time to rest, enjoy the tranquil surroundings, listen to the flowing river, or relax at the lodge before an optional afternoon cultural excursion.

Optional Visit to Rimjung Village and Pema Choling Monastery

For those feeling energetic, take a leisurely walk to the nearby Sherpa settlement of Rimjung to visit Pema Choling Gompa, a historic Buddhist monastery traditionally associated with approximately 350 years of local religious heritage.

The walk takes approximately 30 minutes each way, depending on trail conditions and pace.

Explore the village's traditional stone houses and learn about Sherpa Buddhist practices, religious ceremonies, and the important role monasteries play in local community life.

Your guide will help explain the monastery's cultural significance and local customs. The visit is optional, allowing those who prefer a slower pace to remain at the lodge and relax.

Evening: Relaxation and Dinner at Yeti Mountain Home

Return to the lodge for a relaxing evening surrounded by the peaceful mountain environment.

Enjoy a freshly prepared dinner and spend time with your guide discussing the following day's trekking route, mountain weather, and the gradual acclimatization process.

As temperatures begin to drop after sunset, settle into your comfortable mountain accommodation for a restful night's sleep.

Tomorrow, your journey continues upstream along the Dudh Koshi River toward Monjo, near the entrance to Sagarmatha National Park.

Along the way, enjoy your first impressive glimpses of the snow-covered Himalayan peaks, including Kusum Kanguru and Thamserku.

The trek from Phakding (2,652 m / 8,701 ft) to Monjo (2,840 m / 9,318 ft) is deliberately kept short and leisurely, allowing your body additional time to adjust to the increasing altitude while providing opportunities to appreciate the natural beauty and cultural traditions of the Everest region.

Morning: Trek Through the Scenic Dudh Koshi Valley

Phakding to Toktok – Pine Forests and Cascading Waterfalls

After a leisurely breakfast at Mountain Lodges of Nepal – Phakding Lodge, begin your trek northward along the well-established trail toward Monjo.

The route follows the beautiful Dudh Koshi River, passing through lush forests of blue pine, fir, and rhododendron. During spring, particularly from March through May, blooming rhododendrons add brilliant shades of red, pink, and white to the surrounding hillsides.

Share the trail with local residents, porters, and trains of pack animals carrying food, building materials, and essential supplies to Namche Bazaar and the higher Sherpa settlements. These traditional mountain supply caravans remain an important part of everyday life in the Khumbu region.

As you continue through the small settlements of Zamfute and Toktok, encounter picturesque waterfalls cascading down rocky hillsides and streams flowing toward the Dudh Koshi River.

Along the way, you may observe villagers engaged in everyday activities, from tending small farms to washing clothes beside mountain streams.

Toktok to Benkar – Himalayan Views and Traditional Settlements

Continue along the gently undulating trail toward Benkar, a small Sherpa settlement surrounded by forested hills and dramatic mountain scenery.

On clear days, enjoy striking views of Kusum Kanguru (6,369 m / 20,896 ft), whose rugged summit rises above the valley, and Thamserku (6,608 m / 21,680 ft), one of the region's most recognizable snow-covered peaks.

The trail passes traditional stone houses, cultivated terraces, colorful prayer flags, and Buddhist mani walls, offering glimpses of the Sherpa communities that have inhabited this region for generations.

Your guide will share insights into the local way of life, Buddhist traditions, and the important role of agriculture, trekking, and mountain trade in the Khumbu economy.

Late Morning: Arrive in Monjo and Settle into Everest Summit Lodge

Benkar and Chumoa to Monjo – A Gentle Approach to Sagarmatha National Park

Continue through Chumoa, following the river valley and ascending gradually toward Monjo (2,840 m / 9,318 ft).

The final section involves a few short climbs and descents through wooded slopes and small settlements, with frequent opportunities to pause for photographs and enjoy the surrounding mountain scenery.

Monjo is a peaceful Sherpa village situated just below the entrance to Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site encompassing Mount Everest and much of the surrounding high Himalayan landscape.

Arrive at Everest Summit Lodge, your comfortable mountain accommodation for the night.

After checking in, enjoy lunch and some time to relax in the lodge's tranquil surroundings.

Afternoon: Discover Monjo Village and Sherpa Culture

Explore Traditional Sherpa Village Life

This afternoon, enjoy a leisurely guided walk through Monjo, a charming settlement where traditional stone houses, small agricultural fields, and Buddhist religious monuments reflect the distinctive culture of the Khumbu region.

Unlike the busier trekking hub of Namche Bazaar, Monjo offers a quieter atmosphere and opportunities to observe everyday village life.

Your guide will introduce you to the customs, beliefs, and community traditions of the Sherpa people, whose deep connection to the Himalayan environment has shaped their culture for centuries.

Visit the Village School and Buddhist Monastery

Continue to the local village school and Buddhist monastery, subject to opening hours and local arrangements.

The school provides an opportunity to learn about education in remote mountain communities, where geography, weather, and access to resources can present unique challenges.

At the monastery, discover the spiritual traditions of Tibetan Buddhism practiced by the Sherpa community. Admire the prayer flags, religious artwork, and sacred objects while learning about the important role monasteries play in preserving local cultural heritage.

The afternoon activities are intentionally flexible, allowing you to explore at a comfortable pace or return to the lodge for additional rest.

Evening: Relaxation at Everest Summit Lodge

Return to Everest Summit Lodge for a peaceful evening surrounded by the forested hills and mountain scenery of the Dudh Koshi Valley.

Enjoy a freshly prepared dinner and spend time with your trekking guide discussing the next day's journey to Namche Bazaar, which involves a more sustained ascent and marks an important stage in your acclimatization.

With today's relatively short walking distance and modest elevation gain, you will have plenty of time to rest, stay hydrated, and adjust gradually to the mountain environment.

Day 5: Trek from Monjo to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m) – Enter Sagarmatha National Park and Discover the Sherpa Capital

Today's trek takes you into the heart of Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its extraordinary Himalayan landscapes, diverse mountain ecosystems, and rich Sherpa cultural heritage. Following the Dudh Koshi River through pine forests and across spectacular suspension bridges, you will make a steady ascent to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m / 11,286 ft), the bustling commercial and cultural center of the Everest region.

Although today's trail is more demanding than the previous two days, the rewards are exceptional. Along the way, you may catch your first distant glimpse of Mount Everest, weather permitting, before arriving at the colorful, amphitheater-shaped settlement of Namche Bazaar.

Morning: Enter Sagarmatha National Park and Follow the Dudh Koshi River

Monjo to Jorsale – Gateway to Sagarmatha National Park

After breakfast at Everest Summit Lodge, set out toward Namche Bazaar, following the well-established trekking trail through the upper Dudh Koshi Valley.

Just above Monjo, arrive at the entrance to Sagarmatha National Park, established in 1976 and designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. The park protects Mount Everest and its surrounding Himalayan ecosystems, including alpine forests, dramatic river valleys, glaciers, and some of the world's highest peaks.

Your guide will complete the necessary permit checks at the park entrance before continuing along the trail.

The initial section follows relatively gentle terrain above the Dudh Koshi River, passing through beautiful pine forests and crossing suspension bridges decorated with colorful Buddhist prayer flags.

Continue to Jorsale (2,805 m / 9,203 ft), a small riverside settlement and the last village with regular teahouse facilities before the sustained climb to Namche Bazaar.

Jorsale to the Hillary Suspension Bridge – Where Two Himalayan Rivers Meet

From Jorsale, follow the Dudh Koshi River upstream through a narrow, forested valley.

The trail remains relatively gentle as you approach the dramatic confluence of the Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi rivers, where powerful glacial waters merge beneath steep, wooded mountain slopes.

After crossing smaller bridges along the route, reach the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge, one of the most recognizable landmarks on the Everest trekking trail.

Suspended high above the river gorge and adorned with fluttering prayer flags, this impressive bridge offers breathtaking views of the rushing river far below and the surrounding Himalayan landscape.

Crossing the bridge marks the beginning of the day's most challenging section: the sustained uphill climb toward Namche Bazaar.

Late Morning: Ascend Through Pine Forests to Namche Bazaar

The Namche Hill Climb – First Glimpses of Mount Everest

Beyond the Hillary Suspension Bridge, the trail climbs steeply through dense pine and rhododendron forests, following a series of winding switchbacks toward Namche Bazaar.

This is the most physically demanding ascent of your trek so far. Your guide will maintain a slow, comfortable pace, allowing frequent breaks for hydration, rest, and photography.

As you gain elevation, the forest occasionally opens to reveal spectacular views across the deep Dudh Koshi Valley and the surrounding Himalayan peaks.

On a clear day, a viewpoint along the ascent offers your first distant glimpse of Mount Everest (8,848.86 m / 29,032 ft), rising behind the dramatic ridges of the Khumbu Himalaya.

Depending on visibility, you may also enjoy views of Lhotse (8,516 m / 27,940 ft), Nuptse (7,861 m / 25,791 ft), and Taboche (6,495 m / 21,309 ft).

As the trail gradually levels out, continue toward Namche Bazaar, where the first colorful buildings appear along the mountainside.

Arrive in Namche Bazaar – The Sherpa Capital of the Everest Region

Arrive at Namche Bazaar (3,440 m / 11,286 ft), the largest and most important trading center in the Khumbu region.

Built into a natural horseshoe-shaped amphitheater, Namche is a fascinating mountain town where traditional Sherpa culture meets the modern world of Himalayan trekking and mountaineering.

Its steep, stone-paved streets are lined with trekking shops, bakeries, cafés, restaurants, small hotels, and stores selling everything from traditional handicrafts to modern mountaineering equipment.

For generations, Namche served as an important trading center between Nepal and Tibet. Today, it remains the principal commercial and logistical hub for trekkers and expeditions heading toward Mount Everest.

Afternoon: Check In at Sherpaland Hotel and Explore Namche Bazaar

Relax and Acclimatize at Sherpaland Hotel

Upon arrival, check in to Sherpaland Hotel, your comfortable accommodation in Namche Bazaar.

Enjoy a well-deserved lunch and take some time to rest after the morning's sustained ascent.

At 3,440 m, Namche Bazaar represents an important stage in your altitude acclimatization. Your guide will encourage a relaxed afternoon, adequate hydration, and attention to any symptoms of altitude sickness.

The itinerary includes a second night in Namche Bazaar tomorrow, providing additional time to adjust before continuing toward higher elevations.

Explore Namche Bazaar's Traditional Markets and Mountain Culture

Later in the afternoon, if you feel comfortable, enjoy a gentle stroll through Namche Bazaar's lively streets.

Browse shops displaying Tibetan-style handicrafts, traditional jewelry, prayer flags, handmade textiles, and locally produced souvenirs.

You may also visit one of the town's welcoming bakeries or cafés, where trekkers from around the world gather to exchange stories of their Himalayan adventures.

Namche's unique blend of traditional Sherpa life and international mountaineering culture makes it one of the most memorable settlements in the Everest region.

Evening: Rest and Dinner at Sherpaland Hotel

Return to Sherpaland Hotel for a relaxing evening and a freshly prepared dinner.

Visit Namche Gompa, a Buddhist monastery associated with the religious and spiritual traditions of the local Sherpa community.

Inside, discover sacred Buddhist imagery, colorful murals, and representations of Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava), the revered spiritual master credited with introducing Vajrayana Buddhism to Tibet.

Your guide will explain the monastery's religious significance and the influence of Tibetan Buddhism on Sherpa culture, festivals, and everyday life.

Namche Bazaar Stupa and Traditional Neighborhoods

The trail climbs steadily above Namche Bazaar, passing through open hillsides and mountain viewpoints with increasingly expansive views of the surrounding peaks.

Allow approximately 1.5–2 hours for the ascent at a comfortable pace, with additional time for photography and rest stops.

Perched high above the Khumbu Valley, Hotel Everest View is celebrated as one of the world's highest-altitude hotels and is recognized by Guinness World Records for its exceptional location.

From the hotel's panoramic terrace, enjoy breathtaking views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and other Himalayan giants, weather permitting.

Relax with a cup of hot tea or coffee while admiring the extraordinary mountain panorama. The setting offers a memorable opportunity to appreciate the grandeur of the Himalayas without undertaking a strenuous summit trek.

After enjoying the views, descend along the same trail to Namche Bazaar, returning to Sherpaland Hotel for the evening.

Acclimatization Note: The hike to Hotel Everest View is optional and should be undertaken only if you feel well and have no symptoms suggesting altitude illness. Your guide will assess conditions and recommend an appropriate activity level. Anyone experiencing symptoms of altitude sickness should avoid ascending higher and inform the guide immediately.

Alternative: Relaxed Afternoon in Namche Bazaar

Guests who prefer a gentler day may remain in Namche Bazaar, browsing local shops, relaxing at a café, or enjoying the mountain scenery from the comfort of the hotel.

This flexibility is an important feature of the itinerary, allowing each traveler to balance acclimatization activities with adequate rest.

Evening: Relaxation and Overnight in Namche Bazaar

Return to Sherpaland Hotel for a relaxing evening and dinner.

Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Namche Bazaar as the surrounding mountains fade into the evening light.

Your trekking guide will review the following day's route toward Tashinga, including the trail conditions, expected walking duration, and opportunities to enjoy spectacular views of Everest and Ama Dablam.

After a rewarding day of cultural discovery and Himalayan scenery, retire for a comfortable night's rest at the same altitude.

Day 7: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tashinga (3,450 m) – Panoramic Everest Views and a Gentle Ridge Walk

Today's journey is one of the most scenic and leisurely walks of your Everest Luxury Lodge Trek, following a beautiful mountainside trail from Namche Bazaar toward the peaceful hamlet of Tashinga. With approximately two hours of walking, the route offers breathtaking Himalayan panoramas without the demanding climbs of previous days.

The trail contours around the mountainside above the Dudh Koshi Valley, revealing spectacular views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku. Your destination is Everest Summit Lodge in Tashinga, a tranquil mountain retreat perched above the valley, where you can spend the afternoon relaxing and admiring the magnificent Himalayan scenery.

Morning: Scenic Ridge Walk from Namche Bazaar

Namche Bazaar to Chorkhung – The Classic Everest View Trail

After a leisurely breakfast at Sherpaland Hotel, begin your trek toward Tashinga, following the classic mountainside trail via Chorkhung (Chorkung).

Leaving Namche Bazaar behind, pass a large sacred mani boulder and follow the trail northward along a broad ridge overlooking the Dudh Koshi Valley.

Unlike the steeper route through Hotel Everest View and Khumjung Village, today's path follows a relatively gentle contour around the mountainside, with occasional short ascents and descents.

Since you have already had the opportunity to visit Hotel Everest View during your acclimatization day, and Khumjung Village is included later in the itinerary, this shorter route allows you to enjoy the scenery without unnecessary repetition or strenuous climbing.

Panoramic Viewpoint – Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and Thamserku

As the trail rounds the ridge, the Himalayan landscape opens into one of the most celebrated mountain panoramas in the Everest region.

On clear days, enjoy magnificent views of:

Mount Everest (8,848.86 m / 29,032 ft): The world's highest peak, visible above the distant Himalayan ridges.

Lhotse (8,516 m / 27,940 ft): The dramatic fourth-highest mountain in the world.

Ama Dablam (6,812 m / 22,349 ft): An elegant, sharply sculpted mountain often regarded as one of the Himalayas' most beautiful peaks.

Thamserku (6,608 m / 21,680 ft): A striking snow-covered summit rising prominently above the Khumbu Valley.

The viewpoint provides excellent opportunities for photography, with the snow-covered Himalayan giants towering above deep valleys, forested slopes, and traditional Sherpa settlements.

Take your time to appreciate the extraordinary scenery before continuing along the mountainside.

Kyangjuma and Sanasa – Traditional Mountain Trail Junctions

Continue toward Kyangjuma (approximately 3,550 m / 11,647 ft), a small settlement with trekking lodges, teahouses, and shops selling locally made souvenirs.

The trail here offers further panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, making it a pleasant place for a short break.

A little farther ahead, reach Sanasa (approximately 3,600 m / 11,811 ft), an important junction where trekking routes branch toward Khumjung, Gokyo, and Tengboche.

Rather than descending toward the Dudh Koshi River and the main Tengboche trail, follow the quieter branch toward Tashinga.

Late Morning: Arrive in Tashinga and Check In at Everest Summit Lodge

Sanasa to Tashinga – A Peaceful Himalayan Retreat

From the trail junction, continue along a gently descending mountainside path, branching toward the small hamlet of Tashinga (approximately 3,450 m / 11,319 ft).

The route traverses peaceful hillsides with expansive views across the Dudh Koshi Valley and the surrounding Himalayan landscape.

Tashinga is a quiet mountain settlement, away from the busier trekking centers, making it an ideal destination for travelers seeking a more relaxed and intimate experience of the Everest region.

Arrive at Everest Summit Lodge, beautifully situated on a mountainside overlooking the valley.

The lodge's secluded setting provides an excellent vantage point for appreciating the dramatic Himalayan scenery, with forested slopes descending toward the river and snow-covered peaks rising beyond.

After checking in, enjoy a freshly prepared lunch and settle into your comfortable mountain accommodation.

Afternoon: Relaxation and Himalayan Scenery at Tashinga

With today's short trek completed, the afternoon is yours to enjoy at a leisurely pace.

Relax at the lodge, admire the mountain views, read a book, or spend time photographing the surrounding landscapes as the changing light brings new colors and contrasts to the Himalayan peaks.

For those who prefer some gentle activity, your guide can arrange a short walk around the nearby settlement and surrounding trails, depending on weather conditions and personal interest.

Tashinga's peaceful environment offers an opportunity to experience the quieter side of Sherpa country, away from the busy trekking routes.

The relatively light walking schedule also provides additional time for rest and adjustment to the altitude before tomorrow's excursion to Tengboche Monastery.

Evening: Sunset Views and Dinner at Everest Summit Lodge

As evening approaches, enjoy the serene atmosphere of Tashinga, where the surrounding mountains and deep river valleys create a remarkable Himalayan setting.

Weather permitting, watch the late afternoon sunlight illuminate the distant snow-covered peaks before they gradually fade into the evening shadows.

Enjoy dinner at Everest Summit Lodge and spend a relaxing evening with your fellow travelers.

Your guide will brief you on tomorrow's excursion to Tengboche Monastery, one of the most important Buddhist monasteries in the Khumbu region and a highlight of the journey.

Retire for a peaceful night's rest, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Everest Himalayas.

Day 8: Excursion to Tengboche Monastery (3,867 m) – Sacred Sherpa Heritage and Spectacular Himalayan Views

Today is one of the most rewarding days of your Everest journey as you hike to Tengboche Monastery (3,867 m / 12,687 ft), the highest point reached on this trek. Perched on a scenic ridge surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks, Tengboche is one of the most important centers of Tibetan Buddhism in the Khumbu region and a celebrated destination for trekkers and mountaineers.

The journey combines a scenic descent through the Dudh Koshi Valley with a sustained climb through rhododendron and pine forests. Your efforts are rewarded with magnificent views of Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse, and other Himalayan giants, along with an opportunity to discover the spiritual traditions of the Sherpa people.

After exploring the monastery and enjoying lunch amid the extraordinary mountain scenery, return to the comfort of Everest Summit Lodge in Tashinga.

Morning: Trek from Tashinga to Phunki Tenga

Descend Through Rhododendron Forests to the Dudh Koshi River

After breakfast at Everest Summit Lodge, set out with your trekking guide toward Tengboche, following a beautiful mountain trail through the heart of the Khumbu region.

The route initially descends along steep stone steps and forested paths toward Phunki Tenga (approximately 3,250 m / 10,663 ft), a small riverside settlement nestled in the valley below Tengboche.

As you descend, enjoy views of the surrounding mountains and forested slopes, where pine, fir, and rhododendron trees thrive at these elevations.

During spring, particularly from March through May, blooming rhododendrons transform sections of the forest into colorful displays of red, pink, and white flowers.

The peaceful woodland setting, fresh mountain air, and sound of rushing water create a delightful atmosphere for the morning walk.

Phunki Tenga – Riverside Rest Stop

Arrive at Phunki Tenga, a small settlement beside the Dudh Koshi River, where trekkers commonly pause before beginning the steep ascent to Tengboche.

Cross the river on a suspension bridge and prepare for the most demanding section of today's hike.

The trail climbs steadily through dense forests, following a series of switchbacks and stone steps toward the monastery ridge.

Your guide will maintain a comfortable pace, allowing regular breaks for hydration, rest, and photography.

Late Morning: Ascend to Tengboche Monastery

Forest Trail to Tengboche – A Rewarding Himalayan Climb

From Phunki Tenga, begin the sustained uphill climb toward Tengboche, gaining approximately 600 m (1,970 ft) in elevation.

The trail initially ascends steeply through rhododendron, pine, and fir forests before becoming more gradual as you approach the upper ridge.

Allow approximately 1.5–2.5 hours for the ascent, depending on walking pace, trail conditions, and rest stops.

As the forest gradually opens, the magnificent Himalayan panorama begins to unfold, revealing snow-covered peaks rising dramatically above the surrounding valleys.

Arrive at Tengboche (3,867 m / 12,687 ft), a small mountain settlement renowned for its monastery and extraordinary location overlooking the Everest Himalayas.

Tengboche Monastery – Spiritual Heart of the Khumbu

Visit Tengboche Monastery, also known as Thyangboche Monastery, one of the most revered Buddhist institutions in Nepal's Everest region.

Founded in 1916 by Lama Gulu, the monastery belongs to the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism and plays an important role in the religious and cultural life of the Sherpa community.

The monastery is particularly famous for hosting the annual Mani Rimdu Festival, an important Buddhist celebration featuring sacred masked dances, prayers, and traditional religious ceremonies.

Explore the monastery grounds and, when visitor access is permitted, admire the colorful Buddhist murals, religious statues, prayer halls, and intricate sacred artwork.

Your guide will explain the monastery's history, its connection to Sherpa spiritual traditions, and the important role Buddhist beliefs play in the lives of local communities.

The monastery's peaceful atmosphere, framed by magnificent Himalayan peaks, makes this visit one of the cultural highlights of the trek.

Midday: Himalayan Panorama and Lunch at Tengboche

Tengboche Viewpoint – Everest, Ama Dablam and the Himalayan Giants

After visiting the monastery, take a short walk to a nearby viewpoint for one of the most spectacular mountain panoramas in the Everest region.

Kongde Ri (approximately 6,187 m / 20,299 ft): A striking mountain massif overlooking the Namche Bazaar area.

The combination of sacred Buddhist architecture, colorful prayer flags, forested valleys, and towering Himalayan summits creates an unforgettable setting.

Take time to enjoy the views and capture photographs before settling down for lunch.

Lunch with Himalayan Views

Enjoy a leisurely lunch at a local mountain lodge or teahouse in Tengboche, surrounded by some of the world's most extraordinary mountain scenery.

Weather permitting, relax outdoors and admire the snow-covered peaks while reflecting on the cultural and natural wonders of the morning.

Afternoon: Return Trek to Tashinga

After lunch, begin your return journey along the same trail toward Tashinga.

Descend through the rhododendron and pine forests to Phunki Tenga, enjoying a different perspective of the mountain landscape along the way.

Although the descent is generally quicker than the morning climb, some sections are steep and require careful footing, particularly on uneven stone steps.

After crossing the Dudh Koshi River, ascend the trail back toward Tashinga. This final uphill section can feel demanding after the day's earlier exertions, so your guide will maintain a relaxed pace with breaks as needed.

Arrive at Everest Summit Lodge in the afternoon, where you can freshen up, enjoy a hot drink, and relax after a rewarding day of Himalayan exploration.

Evening: Relaxation at Everest Summit Lodge

Spend a peaceful evening at Everest Summit Lodge, enjoying the quiet mountain surroundings and magnificent views across the Khumbu Valley.

After dinner, relax and share memories of your visit to Tengboche Monastery and the spectacular Himalayan scenery.

The approximately five-hour trek concludes at Everest Summit Lodge in Mende, beautifully positioned above the valley with sweeping views of the surrounding Himalayan landscape.

Morning: Trek from Tashinga to Khumjung Village

Tashinga to Sanasa – Return to the Mountain Ridge

After breakfast at Everest Summit Lodge, retrace the scenic mountainside trail toward Sanasa, following a gently ascending path through rhododendron and pine forests.

The walk takes approximately one hour, offering another opportunity to enjoy views across the Dudh Koshi Valley and the magnificent Himalayan peaks.

At the Sanasa trail junction, leave the main route toward Namche Bazaar and follow the ascending trail into the broad valley leading to Khumjung.

As you gain elevation, the landscape gradually opens into a picturesque mountain basin surrounded by forested slopes, cultivated terraces, and dramatic Himalayan ridges.

Khumjung Village – Traditional Sherpa Life Beneath Sacred Khumbila

The village lies beneath Khumbila (approximately 5,761 m / 18,901 ft), a mountain revered by the Sherpa people as the dwelling place of a protective deity.

Khumjung's distinctive stone houses, many with green-painted roofs, are arranged among carefully maintained agricultural fields, creating one of the most picturesque village landscapes in the Everest region.

Unlike the commercial center of Namche Bazaar, Khumjung retains a quieter, more traditional atmosphere, offering an intimate glimpse into the everyday lives of Sherpa families.

Take time to wander through the village and observe its stone-paved lanes, traditional architecture, and farming terraces.
